This work, which is a part of my master thesis, contains a theoretical approach in which I explore the current problems of intervention on the inherited city in order to propose new ways and strategies of urban regeneration.

The interface city introduces how, given the current state of deep crisis and social paradigm shift, we face new strategies when tackling the urban regeneration of our cities, considering the as the focus of our approach and realizing that our discipline must evolve to respond to a changing context.

This the interface city is put forward as a layer of complexity added to the city. It’s not another built stratum. It is just a setting, a group oftools for improving the inherited city. The citizens have access to the tools that allow them to edit, manage and transform their closest environment, bringing back the importance of the entity and the transformation of their city.

This way, the interface is set as a hybrid infrastructure (software + hardware) which can be understood as an urban operating system in open source consisting in three main parts:
